Mothers Day 2005

We were really busy during the Mothers Day weekend. We went to a "Parade of Gardens" here in Las Cruces on Saturday and two gatherings on Sunday. We probably did too much actually.

The "Parade of Gardens" was interesting. There were seven gardens featured. We visited 4 local homes to view what they had done with their yards. There were ponds, streams and cactus and flowers of many varieties in a variety of settings. I'll show you a few pictures.

On Sunday (Mother's Day) we were invited to some friends for "momlettes" and Bocce Ball. Momlettes are "omelettes" for Mother's Day that someone from our church picked up doing when at another church. He liked the idea so much he decided to start the tradition in this church. He invites a number of folks to his house (sometimes as many as 25). Bocce Ball is a lawn game. I'll show you a few of those pictures too. We had a great time and the weather was great.

After a few hours rest it was time for another gathering. This time it was a gathering of new members that I have particularly grown close to because of our time together in class. We met in a really interesting adobe home north of Las Cruces for a nice dinner and conversation. The adobe house is really interesting. I wish I had pictures to show you. It is estimated that there are about 30,000 adobe blocks in this two story house. Adobe is hand made with dirt and straw. As you can imagine it took a bit of time to build. The walls are 16 inches think and very energy efficient. If adobe wasn't so labor intensive it would be the perfect home building material for this part of the country.

I got up at 4:30 am to go fishing. I forgot my lucky fishing shirt and didn't get a bite. It was 33 degrees when we got to the mountain lake. It was beautiful. On the way we saw a herd of elk grazing along the road. At the lake we heard the call of wild turkeys.

After all this activity we are both are wiped out. It is probably early to bed tonight.

Lastly I have been collecting digital pictures of my extended family (over 100 members) to include in the family tree that I will have printed for our reunion next month. The family tree will be huge and will be posted on the wall.

Well enough for now.
Shalom,
