Cool huh? Now I am waiting for the performance exhaust which allows it to go 40 mph. Posted by Picasa

Side by side you can tell my Tomos is simply a bigger (not by much) bike. Posted by Picasa

My baby in its new home. Sharp looking isn't it. I love the classic look of black. Posted by Picasa

We waited to assemble the last little bit until after the test drive. Then we could make the final adjustments. I was ready to roll. Posted by Picasa

98% of it is already assembled. It even had some oil in the tank. Posted by Picasa

2006 Tomos St Moped

Last Saturday was the day. My 2006 Tomos ST moped was at the dealer in Carlsbad and I was on my way to pick it up.

Carlsbad, the home of the caverns, is 3 1/2 hours away from Las Cruces but I didn't care. After doing the research on mopeds I knew Tomos had a great reputation so I was getting a great bike. Once in Carlsbad it took a while to find the dealer. His shop was in the garage next to his home on the edge of town.

My moped was still in the box so Rick (the owner) and I had to do a bit of assembly. That amounted to putting on some lights, attaching the handlebars and connecting some electrical components. It should have been an easy job but Rick kept getting interupted by people who wanted him for various things. That was okay with me. My bike came together before my eyes. I was so excited.

Finally it was ready for a test ride. It started up right away, thankfully and I a gingerly drove it down Rick's dirt driveway to the city street. Vrooom! I took off. I have a 1983 Suzuki FA50 that works just great but my 2006 Tomos St moves. There is little comparison between the two. It felt great.

Once all loaded in my van I drove out of Carlsbad with a big grin on my face. I have a new bike.

Since getting home I have ridden it to work almost every day. It handles better than I had hoped and is just what I was looking for. My size over-powered my Suzuki but I fit the Tomos. I can keep up or ahead of traffic on the side roads around town and for the most part the looks I get are more accepting. I got more than a few smirks when I roade the Suzuki.

Well I wanted to share my news.

Take care.
