VIRTUAL CHOIR

Have you ever heard of Eric Whitacre? A few years back I was introduced to him via a YouTube video. He had invited people from around the world who want to sing to learn his piece, record themselves singing then submit it so it could be joined with others via computers to form a choir.

I was fascinated. What a concept. I no longer remember how many videos were submitted but it was a lot. I was hooked. I wanted to be a part of this so I did some investigation.

All I had to do was download the video of him directing, learn my part, record myself singing and submit it. Sounds simple doesn't it. The hardest part was getting a video of me singing that I was happy with. I took a number of takes before finally deciding on one that was okay. We are always more critical of ourselves.

Eric's team takes these submitted videos and combine them into a piece that I will show you in a moment. There were about 5000 singers from all over the world. This particular video was presented for the first time in July to the Queen of England, Elizabeth II. I was there (sort of). I also found out that a cousin of mine, Rachel Nash, also did it. I was thrilled.

I looked at the video trying to see my face but no luck. But my name appeared in the list of singers.
