ELK REFUGE Jackson Hole, Wyoming Feb 2016

What a beautiful day it was.
Cindy & I along with friends Dewey & Karen drove to Jackson Hole for a day of fun.
It is a 3 hour drive to Jackson but the day was just beautiful. Once there we spent time at the National Elk Refuge and then spent time experiencing Jackson. We ate at Eleanor's (bison burgers), then saw the Silver Dollar Bar and The Cowboy Cafe. They are famous places with unique interiors. The Silver Dollar has a bar embedded the whole length with silver dollars. The Cowboy Cafe has saddles as bar stools. We had to sit on them of course.

I was most excited about seeing the Elk and wasn't disappointed.

The Elk refuge currently has close to 7000 Elk within its borders. We were driven out to see a herd of close to 700.

We were given a sleigh ride pulled by 2 very large Belgium type horses. We were covered up with blankets to help keep us warm. It was a clear calm day so we were just time. Our driver was very knowledgeable so we learned a great deal about the elk and the refuge. Look up National Elk Refuge on the web if you want to know more.

As you can tell the setting is just breathtaking. I'll never get tired of the Tetons. When we took the sleigh ride out to the elk herd the driver gave us information about the site. One thing he said was that if you drop something it is gone. No one gets out of the sleigh. The elk have been used to seeing the sleighs as something non-threatening so they do not get upset when tourists come around.
