2016 has been the year of changes.
At the beginning of the year Cindy and I decided it was time to make some changes in our lives. We decided she would quit her job and I would retire and we would move to the Denver area to be close to our daughter’s family.
So on July 24th I presided at worship in the Lutheran church for the last time after serving 38 years in 5 congregations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Mexico and Wyoming. It was then on to Highlands Ranch and our new home and new experiences. Daughter Laura and BJ and their three children are close by in Littleton so we see them quite often.
While this was taking place for us, in Virginia our daughter-in-law AJ was in labor. On July 25th she gave birth to twins, Thomas and Evie. Now son Matt and AJ have three children and very busy lives.
The traveling was just beginning. Our next destination was to Virginia to help out with those three grandkids. Thomas and Evie were still in the hospital so Cindy and I just did whatever we could to make Matt & AJ’s lives easier. We took care of Ainsley, bought groceries, cooked, etc. It was busy but rewarding.
A week after getting back to Denver it was off to Minnesota to preside at our niece Lisa’s wedding to Kendall. It was a mini reunion and great to see our families.
Once home friends from Wisconsin and Arizona visited us, then Cindy and I flew back out to Virginia to baptize Thomas and Evie, cuddle with Ainsley and help out some more. Then more friends visited before Cindy flew to Minnesota for Thanksgiving to be with her family.
Slowly but surely we are getting settled. We have gotten to be with Lily, Ben, Ryan and parents Laura and BJ much more often which has been great. I have even volunteered at Lily and Ben’s school in Lily’s room a few times.
Church shopping, finding new doctors/dentists, trying out new restaurants, figuring out where things are, singing Handel’s Messiah along with the Colorado Symphony and Chorus to name some other activities means we are busy. Oh, Cindy now has a smart phone and has gotten into texting with our kids. What fun.
It has been a very busy time for us but full of blessings.
May your lives also be filled with family, friends, and the blessings of God this New Year.
Keep in touch.
Shalom,
Scott & Cindy J
