RIVERTON, WY

Downtown Riverton
Library

At the beginning of March I moved to an area of the country I had only driven through before. I moved to Riverton, WY. If you Google Riverton you can find out some facts about it. I’m simply going to give some impressions I have made.

Indian and Mountain Man

The town itself is nice. The people are friendly. Everyone I’ve come into contact with have wanted to be of help. As a community of just over 10,000 it has limited shopping and restaurants. There is no shopping mall but plenty of strip malls. Walmart & Kmart are here along with stand-alone stores offering just about anything. To get the big chain stores people drive to Casper, Denver, Salt Lake, Billings, etc.  There are parks to picnic and play in, movie theaters, a college, library and festivals at various times of the year. A nice place.

It is not at all uncommon to see deer and antelope. I was sitting in my living room last night and something caught my eye in the front yard. Twelve mule deer walked between my house and the neighbor heading to who knows where. I imagine to people around here that  would not seem all that unusual. Well to me it was. I just stood in the window smiling and watching the beautiful sight. Horses and cows graze together on the edge of town. Snow capped mountains are visible in the distance. Riverton is nestled in a beautiful location.

It is a conservative community which means that there are no agencies to help strangers to the community who are in need of gas money, food, etc. People take care of their own.  Churches have banded together to offer limited help to those I mentioned.

All in all it is a nice place to be. It reminds me of life in Minnesota where I grew up, complete with snow. Spring has sprung now and the warm breezes, green grass and marigolds are slowly replacing the cold and brown.

Two weeks from now Cindy will have joined me and we will be setting up our new home. Come and visit but call ahead.

Looks like a very cool place - sure anxious to see and hear more and you both get settled. Anxious to make it up there and check out the deer and the antelope myself. I'll call ahead.
